The Town of Ellettsville will be the recipient of four Community Crossings grants this month in support of repaving projects.
In July, the town applied for the four grants and received word that it would get them Aug. 23. The grants total $46,211.45 and require a local match.
The funds will be disbursed in different amounts for the four projects: $23,909.25 will be used to repave South Ridge Springs Lane from West Temperance Street to North Sycamore Drive to South Cedar Drive; $11,349.80 will be used to repave North Robin Drive from North Langley Drive to East Meadowlands Drive; $9,417 will be used to repave West Dewey Drive from South First Street to South Park Street; and $1,535.40 will be used to repave South Tulip Court.
Community Crossings is a partnership between Indiana Department of Transportation and Hoosier communities.
Ellettsville will match the funds through additional funding for road and bridge improvements made available to communities throughout Indiana after Gov. Mike Pence signed House Bill 1001 and Senate Bill 67 earlier this year.
Those funds totaled $180,156.51. The town also put 25% ($45,039.13) into a rainy day fund, which is the maximum allowable by law.
Though the funds will be received this month, Ellettsville Streets Department Commissioner Danny Stalcup and foreman Kip Headdy were unsure they would be able to do the work before spring. They said it depends on contractor availability and how long the asphalt plants stay open, both of which are impacted by the weather.
