Cry Out America to conduct community prayer for Sept. 11

The Monroe County chapter of Cry Out America, a national organization dedicated to “waking up America to God,” will hold a prayer event at the Marci Jane Lewis Park shelter house on Sept. 11 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The organization has lined up local clergy and other members of the community to speak at the event and reflect on the events of 9/11.

“This ministry got together and decided we’re going to start praying for an awakening to God,” said Kathy Taylor, Cry Out America state coordinator for Indiana. “We’re going to start praying for Christ-like awakening, for America to wake up and the church to wake up.”

This is the seventh year the event has been held in Monroe County. In previous years, prayers were held at the Monroe County Courthouse. At times, as many as 175 people have attended.

“It’s a prayer meeting, so we really just want to seek God for our community,” said county coordinator Ann Buehler.

Veterans and civil service people, in particular, are invited. Cry Out America was formed in response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
